How to make money in GTA 6: every known method
In GTA 6 the money comes mainly from crime: robbing stores, gas stations and banks, stealing cars and taking jobs from other criminals, based on what Rockstar showed in the Extended Look. And this time you'll need it: some missions require money to move on. This guide gathers everything seen so far, and we will expand it with the best methods once the game launches on 19 November.

Robberies: from gas stations to banks
In the Extended Look Jason and Lucia hold up gas stations, stores and even a waffle restaurant, and pull off an escape with Raul Bautista, the veteran bank robber. The progression looks clear: small jobs at first and bigger scores as the story moves on.
Outside missions you can rob almost anything: stores, banks, pawn shops, payday lenders or jewellery stores. Rob Nelson, co-studio head of Rockstar North, said so in his interview with IGN, where he showed how they work:
- You prepare them. For example, by leaving a car parked outside for the getaway.
- Safes open with the combination or with an explosive, which destroys part of the loot.
- Solo or as a couple. You can pull them with Jason, with Lucia or with both: one watches the door while the other goes for the safe.
Bear in mind that witnesses recognise you by your clothes, weapon or car, so planning the getaway is part of the job. We explain it in our new gameplay features.
Why does money matter more in GTA 6?
Because some story missions require you to have it before you can move on. According to Nelson, money carries more weight than in any previous GTA, and between missions you'll have to go out and earn it with robberies or by stealing cars to sell.
Stealing cars (carefully)
Stolen cars are sold at specialist chop shops, which pay less if they arrive damaged, so it's worth opening them without breaking anything. Your phone's scanner tells you what each one is worth before you take it. Chop shops also buy jewellery and hand out jobs for specific cars. How to steal them, with which tools and what to do with them is all in our cars guide.
Jobs for other criminals
Jason starts the story working for Brian Heder, a smuggler from the Leonida Keys, and the cast includes other characters with businesses of their own, such as Boobie Ike and Dre'Quan Priest. Everything suggests a good share of the money will come from their jobs.
What worked in GTA V
In GTA V, the biggest fortunes came from the major heists and the stock market: investing in companies affected by certain missions could multiply your money. You could also buy businesses that generated income. Rockstar hasn't confirmed that GTA 6 will repeat these systems.
