Jason and Lucia, the couple about to turn Leonida upside down

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are the two protagonists of GTA 6, a criminal couple inspired by Bonnie and Clyde who take on the state of Leonida. Lucia is also the first female lead of the series' 3D era. Here is who they are, what Rockstar Games has revealed about their past and the characters around them. Just below is Trailer 2, the one that introduces them best.

The story: a couple against an entire state

According to the official synopsis, Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida. To make it out alive they will have to rely on each other more than ever.

Who is Jason Duval?

Jason grew up around grifters and crooks. After a stint in the Army to leave a troubled adolescence behind, he ended up in the Leonida Keys doing what he knows best: working for local drug runners. He lives on one of the properties of smuggler Brian Heder, helping him out with the odd job, and his story begins as he starts to wonder whether it is time to try something new.

Who is Lucia Caminos?

Lucia's father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk, and life has been testing her ever since. Standing up for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and a healthy dose of luck got her out. The first trailer introduced her exactly that way, in a prison jumpsuit. Now free, she is determined to build the life she has always wanted and not to put another foot wrong.

How Rockstar introduced them in the trailers

Trailer 1, released in December 2023 and set to Tom Petty's Love Is a Long Road, focused on Lucia and life in Vice City. Trailer 2, which premiered on 6 May 2025 with The Pointer Sisters' Hot Together, put the couple centre stage and, according to Rockstar, racked up 475 million views in 24 hours. You can watch it at the top of this article; here is the first one:

Playing as both: character switching

In the Extended Look shown on Netflix on 27 August 2026, Rockstar confirmed that you can freely switch between Jason and Lucia for most of the game, although the option is locked during specific story moments. It is an evolution of GTA V's system, which let you swap between Michael, Franklin and Trevor.
